Experience the Magic of February in Cozumel
February isn’t just another month in the Caribbean—it’s the peak of the Cozumel Carnival 2026 (February 11–17) and the height of the Spotted Eagle Ray migration. Whether you’re here for the vibrant floats on the Malecón or the majestic gliders at Santa Rosa Wall, Blue Mayan Divers is your gateway to the best of both worlds.
1. The Underwater Stars: Spotted Eagle Ray Season
From late January through March, the deep blue currents of Cozumel attract schools of Spotted Eagle Rays. Unlike other times of the year, February offers the highest probability of seeing these graceful creatures “flying” against the current.
- Top Sites for Sightings: We are currently running daily trips to Santa Rosa Wall and Palancar Deep, where the walls drop into the abyss and the rays love to play.
- Pro Tip: Keep your eyes off the reef and into the “blue” to spot them!
2. Carnaval 2026: The Party on Land
When the tanks are dry, the island explodes with color. This year marks the 152nd anniversary of Cozumel’s Carnival. The main parades are scheduled for Saturday, Feb 14 (Valentine’s Day!), Sunday, Feb 15, and the Grand Finale on Fat Tuesday, Feb 17.
Why dive with Blue Mayan Divers during Carnival? > We schedule our morning two-tank boat dives to get you back to the pier by early afternoon. This gives you plenty of time to rinse your gear, grab a taco, and find a prime spot on Rafael Melgar Avenue for the sunset parades.
3. Eco-Conscious Diving in 2026
As cruise capacity in the Caribbean hits record highs this year, protecting our reefs is more important than ever. At Blue Mayan Divers, we practice Green Berthing and strict buoyancy control to ensure our Mesoamerican Reef stays pristine.
- Reef Closures Update: Note that Cedral Pass and Francesa Reef are resting for rehabilitation this month. Don’t worry—we’ve shifted our “secret spots” to equally stunning sections of the Palancar system!
